One of my favorite easy spice recipes for fall baking is this Apple Pie Spice, with only 4 ingredients and a few minutes you have a pantry staple.
I love fall baking, especially when it comes to anything apple. This Apple Pie Spice is one of my favorite spices to mix up this time of year.
We use it all the time in baking with apples, or using it to flavor something to taste like apple such as donuts or breads.
It is such an easy recipe and one that I think you should have in your arsenal because Apple Pie Spice is not always easy to find.
I know that I have searched my stores long and hard at times and could never find it, so I decided to just start making it and now I get to share it with you!
WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:
- It only contains 4 ingredients that if you bake during the fall you probably have on hand.
- It whips up in minutes.
- It lasts for a long time and goes perfect in anything that you want flavored apple.
We go though this Apple Pie Spice like no other, it is one we like to bake with a lot! Which I have to get some apple recipes up for you!
Some of my favorite recipes that use Apple Pie Spice include Apple Pie Jam, Apple Brown Betty and Apple Pie Ice Cream!
They are all so good and as you can see they are a versatile mix of different recipes so you can use it in a lot of things!
HOW TO MAKE APPLE PIE SPICE, STEP BY STEP:
- Gather your ingredients, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and ginger.
- In a small bowl, mix all ingredients together until they are blended well.
- Place in an airtight container and store until ready to use.
See how easy this recipe is to whip up! I mean why go to the store and pay like $4-5 on a small container when you can make your own!
I know it is a specialty ingredient, but it is so good in so many apple desserts that like I said we alway keep it around.
HOW TO STORE:
If stored properly, as in an airtight container this Apple Pie Spice Recipe will properly hold up for about 1-2 years just like a lot of spices.
That is why we love it so much! When you are able to make you own spice blends they last for quite a while.
And that is something we do from time to time, we like to make a lot of our own spices like BBQ rub, Ranch Mix, Taco Seasoning, etc.
You can get mini canning jars and seal those and use them to store this spice in or you can use an old spice container and use that as well.
We have done both and they both lasted just as long as stated above!
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- Make sure that this is stored in an airtight container, preferably out of sunlight like in a cabinet or other place.
- You can refrigerate this, but it really won’t extend it’s life any.
- This makes about 5 Tbs of Apple Pie Spice, you can easily double if you are a big baker like me.
- You can adjust the ingredients to your liking, this is just our favorite blend that we have come up with over the years.
- This is great sprinkled on ice cream, whipped cream, in milkshakes, etc.
If you are looking for the perfect fall spice then you have to make a batch of this Homemade Apple Pie Spice! It will be a staple from now on!
