Reminiscent of your favorite fair food these Banana Funnel Cake Bites are delicious, easy and absolutely tasty. Topped with powdered sugar and a side of caramel sauce, you can’t get any better.
Funnel Cakes, oh all the memories of them. If you haven’t tried an actual funnel cake then you ought to do that, either from your local fair or by making your own at home.
We wanted to take a different approach and add a little fruit and make them a little less messy and hence the Banana Funnel Cake Bite recipe was born.
These bites are absolutely mouthwateringly delicious and you absolutely cannot stop at just one. I am obsessed with anything banana flavored so that is the fruit that we decide to go with!
You can pretty much deep fry anything, I mean if you haven’t seen all the crazy stuff people deep fry, especially at fairs. But these Banana Funnel Cake Bites are a little less odd.
With a crispy outside topped with powdered sugar and a side of caramel sauce for dipping you really get so much flavor in each and every bite (definitely pun intended).

HOW TO MAKE BANANA FUNNEL CAKE BITES, STEP BY STEP:
- Place the egg and sugar in a medium-sized bowl,
- Whisk to combine.
- Add the milk and vanilla to the same bowl and whisk until incorporated. Set aside.
- In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Pour the wet mixture into the dry and whisk or stir to combine until it just comes together and there are no dry patches, set aside.
- In a large skillet with deep sides, add 1-2 inches of oil, I used peanut oil. Heat to 350°F.
- Peel, then cut the bananas into 1-inch sections, place the banana pieces into the batter. Coat the pieces well in the batter.
- Once the oil is hot, carefully place the banana pieces one by one, not touching and not crowding the pan into the oil. You will need to fry in batches.
- Turn the bananas over with a slotted spoon until golden on all sides, about 3-5 minutes. You will need to flip them every minute or so so they don’t burn on the bottom. Take the bananas out with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to blot off any excess oil.
- Place them on a wire rack over a sheet tray while you fry the remaining bananas.
- Serve immediately with a generous dusting of powdered sugar and optional caramel sauce on the side for dipping.
How easy is this Banana Bites recipe? If you are a huge fan of deep frying then I really suggest making this recipe, also if you are a huge fan of funnel cakes an bananas.
This is like the trifecta of recipes with the batter, bananas and powdered sugar. It is like you are having your favorite funnel cake but in bite form with fruit!
WHAT OTHER FRUIT OR INGREDIENTS CAN I USE?
You can pretty much deep fry anything that you want like I said before. These are super tasty with strawberries as well. The smaller fruit you will want to stay away from.
Other ingredients yo could add to the center would be chocolate pieces, chunks of candy bars, Oreos and so much more. These are just nice base and a great fruit option.
WHAT OTHER DIPPINGS SAUCES CAN I USE?
We absolutely love the caramel sauce for this recipe, but you can also use a chocolate syrup or fudge sauce. Strawberry sauce is great with bananas as well or even butterscotch.
Any sweet sauce that you can make at home that you think would go well with bananas you are able to use! Do not limit yourself, I say try everything and find your balance!
HOW TO STORE:
These are best eaten right away because if they are stored they will become soggy. But you can refrigerate the funnel cake batter for up to 3-5 days in an airtight container.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- If you are not a fan of whole milk, any milk will work.
- You can easily double this recipe to serve more people.
- Use your favorite dippings sauce, try them all to find what you like best.
- I highly recommend the powdered sugar.
- If you want a real potent banana flavor you can substitute some of the vanilla extract with banana extract.
If you want a fun and tasty recipe that will remind you of one of your favorite fair foods, then you have to make these Banana Funnel Cake Bites!

These look so good and delicious too! I have not made these yet but I will this weekend. We are not a huge breakfast family but this looks like you could have these with a cup of coffee, a glass of mike or whatever you like. I can’t wait to try them, with a couple of sauces, a caramel one and a strawberry one. I will certainly let you know how it went. Thank you for the recipe.
