Banana Mug Cake

Mug cakes are one of our go-to recipes in our house. When we don’t want to make a huge dessert that night not get eaten, and only one real person is craving dessert (usually me) we love to find some single serving desserts that are perfect for one or two.

This Chocolate Chip Banana Mug Cake recipe is super fast and super easy. But don’t get it twisted, fast and easy doesn’t mean that it lacks flavor, this cake is full of chocolate and banana goodness in each and every bite.

HOW DO YOU MAKE A MUG CAKE?

  • In large mug add your flour, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt and whisk together.
  • Add in egg, milk, banana and vanilla and whisk until combined.
  • Stir in your mini chocolate chips.
  • Place in microwave and heat on normal setting for 1 minute 30 seconds to 2 minutes.
  • Top with whipped cream, mini chocolate chips and sliced banana if desired.

Mug cakes are a really easy concept. They are just regular cakes with the ingredients cut down to serve one. They are usually made in a bowl or a mug, hence the name mug cake. The kicker is that they are microwaved and not baked, saving on time.

Mug cakes usually consist of flour, baking powder, milk, salt, egg and flavoring. You can really doctor it up to create what ever flavor you’d like. Want a chocolate mug cake? Then add some cocoa powder! Peanut butter mug cake? Just add a little bit of peanut butter to the batter. The possibilities are ENDLESS.

HOW LONG DO YOU COOK A MUG CAKE?

These little desserts are made in under 2 minutes. I mean how can you not like having a whole “slice” of cake that is homemade and done in that time? I think that the reality behind it is the convenience and ease, and that is what we as humans kinda crave. At least that’s what I crave.

CAN YOU MAKE A MUG CAKE IN AN OVEN?

Generally mugs are made of ceramic and porcelain and are oven safe if you really don’t want to make this in a microwave. You can preheat your oven to 350 and bake for about 15-20 minutes, checking after 15 for doneness in the center by using a toothpick to see if it comes out clean.

Nice recipe! A good amount of banana, but I cut the sugar in half.
But note, you forgot the butter in your instructions!
