Chocolate, delicious and easy these Chocolate Waffles whip up in minutes and use minimal ingredients and are the perfect breakfast recipe.
My kids love breakfast, I’m more of a coffee type of gal but as being a mother making breakfast for my kids is one important role that I have to play.
These Chocolate Waffles are easy, fun and tasty! The kids love them because they aren’t “boring” and they can have multiple different toppings
We like to top ours with some powdered sugar, chocolate syrup and strawberries or other berries that we have on hand.
WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:
- They are large enough to only need one so you will be able to serve a whole family with just the one recipe.
- They have minimal ingredients that whip up in minutes.
- They can be served with an array of toppings of your choice.
These Chocolate Waffles are one of the kids favorite breakfast treats, but we only make them so often because they are so rich, and we don’t need rich all the time.
Although I could live off all things sweet, I say that everything in moderation is key. And these waffles are one of those recipes you’ll want to make but in moderation.
HOW TO MAKE CHOCOLATE WAFFLES, STEP BY STEP:
- In large bowl add your flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder and baking soda and whisk together.
- Next add in your eggs, buttermilk, oil and vanilla.
- Whisk this mixture until everything comes together and is smooth, it’s okay if there are a few lumps.
- Preheat your waffle iron to high setting and pour about 1/2 cup of batter into waffle maker and cook for a few minutes until done.
Waffles are really a simple recipe to make, they are one of the ones that we love to make, just waffles in general. We have a debate in our house in which we like better waffles or pancakes, but waffles usually win out.
I’m more of a pancake lover, but I still can’t pass up a good waffle when I see one. Especially when I’m traveling and they offer them in the continental breakfast.
WHAT DO I TOP WAFFLES WITH?
You can really go with a variety of things for topping these Chocolate Waffles. We use powdered sugar, chocolate syrup and fruit to add a little contrast.
Some other ideas would be whipped cream, caramel drizzle, cherry pie filling, regular syrup, etc. Whatever you think that you would like to top it with, you go right ahead and do that!
CAN THESE BE FROZEN?
If you don’t feel like you can eat these in one sitting then you can absolutely freeze these. The best way to freeze these Chocolate Waffles is to place on a baking sheet and place in freezer.
Once frozen, remove and place into a ziptop freezer bag and place back in freezer for later use. They should keep for about 3-4 months.
To reheat preheat your oven to 350, place on baking sheet and bake for about 10-10 minutes until they are heated through.
They may be soggier after they are frozen and reheated but they still are delicious.
WHAT GOES GOOD WITH CHOCOLATE WAFFLES?
While this is a meal in itself you could always add a side if you’d like! Not saying that you have to but some sides that we like to whip up with this include:
- Scrambled Eggs
- Bacon
- Sausage Patties
- Fresh Fruit platter
- Yogurt
Those are just some of the few options that we have used when serving this recipe for breakfast.
The one thing that I like about this Chocolate Waffle Recipe is that it is rich, but it is not too rich. I think the balance of the chocolate in the waffle itself is perfect.
Also there is just enough sugar and vanilla to balance out that chocolate flavor too. So you get a good combination of chocolate and sweetness at the same time, and not a bitter chocolate flavor.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- You can use any waffle maker you have on hand, we use just a standard round one, but square ones work as well, just test how much batter you will need to use.
- If you want to add some mini chocolate chips for an extra kick of chocolate flavor studded through them, it is amazing!
- Top with whatever toppings that you like, I have listed some above in the post.
- Make sure that you spray your waffle maker each time you add more batter or these will stick.
- You can easily double or halve this recipe depending on the amount of people you are serving.
- This recipe can be frozen, look at the instructions above to see how to do that.
If you want a fun and flavorful breakfast, these Chocolate Waffles are the perfect secret indulgence that the whole family seems to love then you need to make this recipe ASAP!
