If you want a fun and delicious recipe from one of the most famous bakeries around then you need to make this Copycat Crack Pie. Tasty, easy and addictive!
I love myself a good pie. It took me many years to say that to myself because I never really got the point of a pie, or I was eating the wrong pies.
But when I got older they became one of my favorite things ever, next to cake of course. That will always be my number one.
There are so many different pies out there that you can make that the flavors and ideas are endless. This Crack Pie Recipe is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to them.
We love this pie, it is made famous by Milk Bar and we love making a copycat version that tastes just like theres and let me tell you, its ooey, gooey and delicious.
Some of our favorite pies that we have on our website include German Chocolate Pie, Chocolate Chip Pie and Creamsicle Jello Pie!
I’m not against any fruit pies either, I love myself some cherry and apple pie, those are probably my two favorites, but nothing compares to this Crack Pie!
The combination of flavors in the pie are simple, yet they produce such a delicious taste and texture that it just melts in your mouth and you want to keep eating it, at least I do.
WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:
- With pantry staple ingredients there is nothing that your average baker can’t find.
- This has to chill overnight to get the best texture, so don’t rush it.
- The powdered sugar topping really gives it a nice overall sweet aspect on top of the pie itself.
There may seem too be a lot of ingredients in this recipe, but trust me it is really super easy to whip together and make. I hate really complicated desserts.
So I try to give some of the easiest versions out there so that as an average or novice baker you can make the recipes without any issues, but how that I’m here for questions if needed!
HOW TO MAKE COPYCAT CRACK PIE, STEP BY STEP:
- In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add the butter to the bowl, and using your fingers, roll the butter along with the other ingredients through your fingertips until you form a cookie dough-like texture. Try to work the butter in as much as you can so there are no large lumps of butter in the mix.
- Press the crust into the pie dish, set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the sugar, brown sugar, milk powder, cinnamon, and salt.
- Add the melted butter and stir to combine.
- Add the cream, egg yolks, and vanilla.
- Whisk this mixture together until combined and smooth.
- Pour the filling into the pie crust.
- Bake the pie for 30 minutes at 350°F. Lower the temperature to 325°F and bake an additional 20-30 minutes until the top is browned and has formed a crust. The center will still be jiggly, that is okay! Let cool on a wire rack for 2 hours.
- Place in the refrigerator uncovered to chill overnight. Remove from refrigerator and add a generous dusting of powdered sugar before serving.
The crust on this pie is like an oatmeal cookie, it is literally super delicious and makes the absolute perfect crust in my opinion. So delicious.
WHAT DOES CRACK PIE TASTE LIKE?
Well heaven I would say. But it’s basically a giant oatmeal cookie that is filled with a gooey buttery center that compliments it well with it’s subtle sweetness.
Then you top it with the delicious powdered sugar with compliments each and every single bite.
So if you are a fan of gooey pies and oatmeal cookies, then I can almost guarantee that this is the pie that will win you over!
We have tried the pie from Milk Bar and it is amazing and we wanted to recreate that so you can make it at home, and I really think that this pie tastes just as good.
Some of my other favorite non fruit pies include Cannoli Pie, Chocolate Milk Pie and Million Dollar Pie!
Mmmm just look at that slice of Crack Pie, I mean how could you not want to dig into that? I know that this girl can’t and won’t resist thats for sure.
HOW TO STORE:
This needs to be refrigerated overnight to set up fully and I suggest that you keep it refrigerated when not eating. You can cover the pie plate with plastic wrap or foil.
This should keep properly stored in your refrigerator for about 4-5 days.
This pie can also be frozen, yay! We often make more than one because of this! To freeze Crack Pie bake and cool according to directions, but do not dust with powdered sugar.
Then cover with plastic wrap and a layer of foil and place in a freezer bag and place in your freezer, this should keep up to 3 months.
When you are ready to eat just let defrost in the refrigerator, when ready to serve dust with your powdered sugar.
Look at the perfectly golden crust dusted with all that powdered sugar, just makes me drool. We love to make this pie so it get’s made pretty often in our household.
My kids love it, we like to bring it to get togethers and everyone always asks for the recipe so that makes me know that it’s not just me who is in love with this Crack Pie!
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- Use old fashioned rolled oats in the crust, not quick cooking.
- This has to refrigerate overnight to fully set up so expect at least 8 hours.
- You can freeze this pie, see my tips above on how to do that.
- If you want a richer flavor crust you can substitute dark brown sugar.

This sounds delish…but I’d also really love to know more about the pierced/doily-looking plate the slice is sitting on! Is it modern? vintage? Is there a mark on the back? Thanks!
Thank you so much! This was actually purchased from Home Goods many years ago, I’m not sure if they still have them in stock.
