White bowl full of Peppermint Christmas Crack

Christmas Crack is one of those treats that like everyone and their mother makes during the holidays! It is such a good recipe and I absolutely love it.

My kids love it as well, but we like to put a little twist on ours and make it peppermint flavored. Using Andes Candies and crushed up candy canes this Christmas Crack just got an upgrade.

We love making candies this time of year and gifting them out and this is one of the ones that we do every year and everyone always loves it. It is also known as Cracker Toffee too if you haven’t heard the term Christmas Crack.

This is such an easy recipe to whip up with minimal ingredients! That is why we make it every year, we looooove those easy holiday recipes that take no time to make.

I love how festive this gets with the crushed up candy canes and the holiday sprinkles, it really makes it a fun and inviting treat that everyone loves.

Some of our other favorite candy recipes that we love making during the holidays include Divinity, Peppermint Patties and Rice Krispie Peanut Butter Balls.

WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:

  • With minimal ingredients this is easy to put together.
  • If you are not a fan of peppermint, use regular chocolate chips.
  • You can easily double this recipe for gift giving or holiday parties.

HOW TO MAKE PEPPERMINT CHRISTMAS CRACK, STEP BY STEP:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a 10”x15” baking sheet with foil and line your saltine crackers on it in single rows, set aside.
  2. In a sauce pan add the butter and brown sugar.
  3. On stove melt together and bring to a boil and let boil for one minute, then remove.
  4. Stir in your vanilla until it is combined.
  5. Pour over your saltine crackers and spread around until covered.
  6. Place in oven and bake for about 5 minute until bubbly and slightly golden, remove from oven.
  7. Sprinkle your chopped Andes mints over the top of your saltine crackers, let sit for 5 minutes.
  8. Spread chocolate out with offset spatula until your crackers are covered.
  9. Top with sprinkles and crushed candy canes if desired and let set for about and hour then break apart into pieces.

I mean come on how can you get any easier than that. And trust me, those Andes mints are so so so good on this. Like I looooove it, but I love peppermint anything.

They just work really well and you don’t really need to add any other peppermint flavor to it because it really gives that perfect balance between chocolate and peppermint without overpowering it.

Which is exactly what we are going for on this recipe, not over powering with one single flavor but giving the balance between all the flavors which you can taste in each and every bite.

WHAT IS CHRISTMAS CRACK?

For those of you unlucky people who have never gotten the chance to try this treat it is pretty much saltine crackers, coated with a caramel toffee layer and topped with chocolate.

The name can be construed in different ways “crack” as in addicting or crack as in you crack it into pieces. Either way it is addictive and you won’t want to stop with just one piece.

This Peppermint Christmas Crack is one that we love to make with the kids, they like to line up the crackers and then sprinkle on the toppings.

When it comes to the hot stuff that is my job, but other than that I love to have them help me in the kitchen baking whenever they want to, it teaches them life skills.

HOW TO STORE:

This is best stored in the refrigerator, if it get’s too warm then it has a tendency to melt and become a little soggy.

I like to store in an airtight container such as a tin, Tupperware container or a gallon sized ziptop bag and then place it in the refrigerator where it should last for about a week.

This can also be frozen, to freezer we like to place in an airtight container and layer it with parchment paper so they don’t freeze together and it should keep for up to 3 months.

Let it sit in your refrigerator to slightly defrost before consuming or you can place it on the countertop as well, but do not permanently keep it there.

OTHER TOPPING IDEAS:

We have made so many different versions of this Christmas Crack it isn’t even funny, but the peppermint is one we have always loved.

  • White chocolate chips or milk chocolate chips
  • Pretzels
  • Sprinkles
  • Chopped Nuts
  • Holiday M&M’s
  • Plain with no topping

Don’t you just want to take a big bite out of this already? I know that I do! This is such a good recipe for gift giving which I do every year.

Some of my other favorite recipes for gift giving include Holiday Oreo Truffles, Rum Balls and Easy Homemade Peanut Brittle.

TIPS AND TRICKS:

  • Make sure you don’t over bake in the oven otherwise it will burn, keep an eye on it.
  • This needs time to set up, let it chill in the refrigerator or freezer for at least an hour.
  • You can top this with whatever you’d like, see my tips above.
  • This can be frozen, also see my tips above on how to do that.
  • We love the peppermint flavor but if you do not, you can substitute with chocolate chips instead.
  • Break into any size that you like.

This recipe is so easy, I really cannot stress that enough that I just have to keep telling you that you have to make it! You’ll want to make it.

Once you do make it you will see why you will want to keep on making it and it will become one of those regular recipes you make every holiday season.
